What to do right now

  1. 1

    Stop using water

Don't run taps, flush toilets or use the washing machine or dishwasher. More water will only back up further.

  2. 2

    Skip the chemicals

Shop-bought drain unblockers rarely clear a main drain and can splash back on you or the engineer.

  3. 3

    Keep people and pets away

Sewage carries bacteria. Keep children and pets away from overflowing drains and wash your hands after any contact.

  4. 4

Find the manhole if you can

If it's safe and easy to reach, note where your inspection chamber or manhole is. Don't lift heavy covers yourself.

FAQs

Emergency questions

Is jetting included in the call-out?

Rodding is covered by the drainage call-out rate. If high-pressure jetting is needed, the engineer will tell you the jetting rate and get your go-ahead first.

Is the blockage my responsibility or the water company's?

Usually, drains serving only your property are yours, and shared drains beyond your boundary are the water company's. The engineer will tell you what they find.

Do you charge extra because it's an emergency?

No. There is no emergency surcharge. You pay the call-out rate for the time of day the engineer arrives (daytime, evening and weekend, or night and bank holiday), the same as any other visit in that band.

What does the call-out charge include?

Travel within the area we cover, attendance, diagnosis and the first 60 minutes of work. After that, time is charged in 30-minute blocks at the extra-time rate for the same band. Parts are extra, and the engineer confirms the price before fitting anything.

Will anything go ahead without my agreement?

No. Nothing beyond the first hour goes ahead unless you agree to it. If parts need ordering, the return visit to fit them has no second call-out charge. You only pay for the time on site.
