What to do right now

  1. 1

    If you smell gas, stop

Don't use switches or naked flames. Open windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

  2. 2

    Note the error code

Write down any code or flashing light on the boiler display and the make and model. It helps the engineer bring the right parts.

  3. 3

Check the pressure and gas supply

Look at the pressure gauge, and check whether your gas hob works. If it doesn't, the problem may be the supply rather than the boiler.

  4. 4

    Frozen condensate pipe?

In freezing weather, a gurgling boiler that locks out often has a frozen condensate pipe outside. Pouring warm, not boiling, water along it can clear it.

FAQs

Emergency questions

Which boilers do you repair?

Combi, system, regular and back boilers from all major makes, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glow-worm and Viessmann.

What if my boiler can't be repaired?

The engineer will explain why and make it safe. We can then give you a free written quote for a replacement.

Do you charge extra because it's an emergency?

No. There is no emergency surcharge. You pay the call-out rate for the time of day the engineer arrives (daytime, evening and weekend, or night and bank holiday), the same as any other visit in that band.

What does the call-out charge include?

Travel within the area we cover, attendance, diagnosis and the first 60 minutes of work. After that, time is charged in 30-minute blocks at the extra-time rate for the same band. Parts are extra, and the engineer confirms the price before fitting anything.

Will anything go ahead without my agreement?

No. Nothing beyond the first hour goes ahead unless you agree to it. If parts need ordering, the return visit to fit them has no second call-out charge. You only pay for the time on site.
