How charges work

No surprises

Included in the call-out charge: Travel within the area we cover, attendance, diagnosis and the first 60 minutes of work.
After the first hour: Time is charged in 30-minute blocks at the extra-time rate for the same band.
Which band applies: The band is set by the time the engineer arrives, and the whole visit is charged at that band.
No emergency surcharge: An emergency costs the same as any other call-out in the same band. You pay for the time of day, not the word "emergency".
Parts: Charged on top. Common parts are carried on every van, and the engineer confirms the price before fitting anything.
Extra work: Nothing beyond the first hour goes ahead without your agreement.

How we fix it

5Clears the lockout and runs the boiler through several cycles to make sure the code doesn't return

Before the engineer arrives

Check that other gas appliances work, that a prepayment meter has credit and that the pressure gauge reads about 1 to 1.5 bar, then try one reset following the manufacturer's instructions.
If the same code returns, leave the boiler off and book a visit, and if you notice a smell of gas at any point, ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away.

FAQs

Boiler not firing, lockout & error codes: your questions

How many times should I reset the boiler?

Once or twice is reasonable. Repeated resets can hide a developing fault, and some boilers stop accepting resets after several attempts in a short time.

What does an ignition lockout mean?

The boiler tried to light, didn't detect a flame, and shut off the gas as a safety measure. Common causes include a gas supply problem, a worn ignition electrode or flame sensor, or a faulty gas valve.

My boiler locks out every time it freezes. Why?

A frozen condensate pipe is the usual cause. Pouring warm, not boiling, water along the outside section of the pipe can thaw it before you reset the boiler, and if it keeps happening the pipe may need insulating or rerouting.

Does an error code always mean a part has failed?

No. Codes for low pressure, a frozen condensate or an interrupted gas supply can often be put right without new parts. The code shows where to look, and testing confirms the cause.

Is there an emergency surcharge?

No. An emergency costs the same as any other call-out in the same time band. You pay for the time of day, not the word "emergency".
