FAQs
Most combi and system boilers should read roughly 1 to 1.5 bar when cold, rising a little once the heating is on. Your boiler's manual gives the exact range for your model.
A small rise as the water heats up is normal. A large swing, especially if it ends with water dripping outside, usually means the expansion vessel needs recharging or replacing.
Now and then is fine, but regular top-ups bring fresh water and oxygen into the system, which speeds up corrosion and dilutes the inhibitor. Finding and fixing the cause is the better answer.
Not in itself, as the boiler simply shuts down to protect itself. A smell of gas is a different matter: call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 if you notice one.
No. An emergency costs the same as any other call-out in the same time band. You pay for the time of day, not the word "emergency".
Travel within the area we cover, attendance, diagnosis and the first 60 minutes of work. After the first hour, time is charged in 30-minute blocks at the extra-time rate for the same band.
