Kensington Square was laid out in the 1680s, and from it the streets of W8 spread out in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian layers, from the villas of the Phillimore Estate to the mansion flats around Kensington Court. Most of the area falls within conservation areas and many homes are listed, so new pipe runs, flues and vents need planning before any work starts. Larger houses often have several bathrooms, unvented cylinders, underfloor heating and dug-out basements, which means more connected systems to check when something goes wrong.
While you wait
Make sure the thermostat is turned up, the programmer is set to on, and any wireless thermostat has working batteries.
Most combi boilers should read between 1 and 1.5 bar when the heating is off. If it's below 1, tell us when you book.
Make sure the boiler's fused spur switch is on and nothing has tripped at the consumer unit.
Use a safe portable electric heater in one room if you have one, and keep doors closed to hold the heat in.

FAQs
Tell us when you book or call. We'll take it into account when assigning an engineer.
No. There is no emergency surcharge. You pay the call-out rate for the time of day the engineer arrives (daytime, evening and weekend, or night and bank holiday), the same as any other visit in that band.
Travel within the area we cover, attendance, diagnosis and the first 60 minutes of work. After that, time is charged in 30-minute blocks at the extra-time rate for the same band. Parts are extra, and the engineer confirms the price before fitting anything.
No. Nothing beyond the first hour goes ahead unless you agree to it. If parts need ordering, the return visit to fit them has no second call-out charge. You only pay for the time on site.
